The In the Clouds series started out as a research project about decorating porcelain during the casting process, as opposed to adding an extra layer by hand in between firings.

Contemporary possibilities of computer aided design and 3d-printing played a major role in the design of the intricate decoration imprinted in the porcelain In The Clouds cups.

The graphic image on the In The Clouds cups is derived from the skyscapes that are often an inconspicuous part of the decoration on both Dutch Delftware as well as Asian Porcelain.
Silhouettes of birds and planes flying in between the clouds, add a contemporary twist to the classic theme.

Making room

We are cleaning up our warehouse to make space for new projects and are getting rid of the current In the Clouds stock.
So, while supplies last, score yourself a lovingly handmade porcelain piece for a great price!

Part of the series are small and larger cups, a medium and large bowl, and matching lids/saucers in four sizes.
Each piece comes in several shades of colored porcelain: white, blue and green.

Please note: since each batch of porcelain is colored separately, hues differ from piece to piece, and as all pieces are handmade, they rarely are perfectly circular.

One week till Object Rotterdam!

Only 1 (ONE) week to go before our presentation at Object Rotterdam should be ready to roll.
We're about to be starting prep on lighting and stands in just a minute.
Still quite a few final decisions to be made, i'm afraid.
But i'm sure we'll make it work.

Before we head to our workshop however, i wanted to celebrate the Object PR-department for getting the expo out there.
We're super happy with our designs being part of some of the online press-coverage of Object Rotterdam.

Hello store-owner!

As House of Thol we love working for brands and designing custom solutions for companies and public space.

Yet beside our commissioned work we have a growing collection of independent House of Thol products that we mainly produce in-house.

Keeping a large part of the production in our own hands, means we're flexible when it comes to custom orders and smaller quantities.

With that in mind, we created a House of Thol starter-kit for stores, making it easy for smaller shops and concept stores to try out various of our House of Thol products without having to order a full box of one or the other.

We're happy to be part of this line-up for the next exhibition at Design Hotel Artemis in Amsterdam.

The exhibition, with work from a.o. New Duivendrecht, Alex Groot Jebbink and V 3 R S, runs from October 5th 2017 to February 4th 2018.

As is the custom at Design Hotel Artemis, the exhibition will kick-off with a festive opening night on Thursday October 5th.

It's been a couple of months since we first launched our original 'In the Clouds'-series during ShowUP. (Back then, i wrote this blog about the heritage of the clouds and birds as a porcelain print.)

In August, the initial pieces were received with great enthusiasm, and even more so in October, when we presented the first extension of the series: the In the Clouds bowls, during the Dutch Design Week.
