Easy Green Living
Sustainability is an increasingly important concept, yet when it comes to sustainability of a product or design, there are many things to consider.
Is something sustainable because the material(s) used have a low ecological footprint? Because the production method saves CO2, or because a product is manufactured locally? Do we say something is sustainable when a product is circular, easy to recycle and/or the materials used are compostable? Is it sustainable because a product is durable and made to repair and/or last? |
Is a design sustainable because the product functionally helps create a greener lifestyle?
And what about the ethical circumstances surrounding the sourcing of materials and manufacturing and shipping of products? All of the above is valid and of importance, and what is prioritized differs greatly from one design to the next. With an increasing number of people caring for a sustainable future, the line between true green consciousness and conscious greenwashing can be waver thin, and developing a knowledge-based, critical view is ever more important. And then, there is the elephant in the room: |
In a world drowning in an abundance of things, do we need more stuff?
An ever-growing global economy creates obsolescence in order to keep selling.
New collections every few months create the feeling products are disposable.

Future Proof Design
If we truly want to design products for a green future, we should not just look at how a product is manufactured, but also at why it should be made.
Future Proof design focuses on creating a green healthy world based on a true cost economy that can be sustained for generations to come. With an eye for the future, Future Proof design explores contemporary possibilities while creating a conscious connection with nature and building towards a cherished relationship with the products we use. |
The progress that can be achieved with the help of new technology is exciting.
However, surrounding ourselves with ever smarter tech in our devices, presents the danger we forget the way things naturally work. Future Proof products aim to reconnect with nature and create consciousness towards its processes in our daily life. With a straightforward design, Future Proof products are made to last, manufactured from tactile materials and with a mechanical construction and parts that can be replaced and repaired; products to cherish. |
Future Proof products facilitate a sustainable lifestyle change or offer an ecofriendly improvement,
they contribute to a conscious connection with the tangible natural world.

House of Thol / Easy Green Living
Sustainable design and Future Proof products will always be up for debate. And rightly so.
We believe every little step towards a more sustainable future counts, and strive to create a connected world in which we have a conscious relationship with the people and products that surround us and the environment we live in. We love research: diving into science and linking it with inherited wisdom from all over the world, creating designs that connect original techniques and materials with contemporary possibilities. We always aim to go beyond the one-off and create functional durable products that can be manufactured efficiently and are available to a wide audience. We are conscious about the materials we use and take origin, as well as production method, durability, toxicity and after-life into account. As such, we try to steer clear of using any petroleum-based material, recycled or not. |
Our growing product portfolio contains products that make green living easier:
Waterworks, a natural watering system that helps keep your houseplants thriving; The Flower Constellations, brass tools you can use to make stylish arrangements that save flowers; Helios, a durable disk to help grow cuttings and bulbs into water-rooted plants; the Poma/Olera series, created to offer a more conscious way to store fruit and vegetables and fight food waste; and, still in development, the Patella Crescenda, a tool to stylishly grow micro-greens and help you be on top of your own supply of fresh and healthy food year-round. |
Next to the products we launched independently, we love joining forces with brands and companies with a sustainable or circular challenge.
For Eclectic Dutch lighting brand Ay Illuminate, we designed the Wren & Kiwi lamps, designed to be assembled at a Dutch social enterprise and made from materials with a low ecological footprint. We designed the ReCabinet series to create a second life for the many redundant metal filing cabinets being discarded by offices and institutions getting rid of their paper archives. Working together with Royal Dutch Ahrend, the 95% circular ReCabinet is available for small and large scale interior projects. We would love to take on your future proof challenge, so lets start the conversation. |
